Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading

Yay!  My first book review!

Charlie Joe Jackson's Guide to Not Reading by Tommy Greenwald

I enjoyed this little book about a middle school boy who despises reading and desperately does everything he can to not read assignments for school.  Charlie Joe tells his story, in short chapters of course, alternating with lists of reasons why reading is bad for you and other ways to avoid reading. He explains that his books is good for "those unfortunate occasions that you are not able to get out of reading and are forced to read a book, it will be a nice easy book to read."

Charlie Joe even bribes his friend Timmy with ice cream sandwiches from the cafeteria in exchange for Timmy reading Charlie's books for him!  Timmy and Charlie get caught in their scheme, but that doesn't stop Charlie from coming up with an even bigger scheme involving the girl he's had a crush on for years and the big end of year paper he has to write.

This is a funny book and a quick read.  Especially if you find you are like Charlie Joe and don't like reading, I think you will sympathize with him and enjoy his schemes - and before you know it, you will have finished the book!
